Properly Train Your Dog With Our Tips
Getting frustrated with your dog? Is she treating your house like one big chew toy, or having a hard time mastering housetraining? Is she jumping up on you when you’d rather she didn’t? Great news – most canine behavior problems can be easily lessened or eliminated outright by some basic dog training. Just check some of these tips out!
Try to view things from your dog’s perspective. Frustration may come quickly if your dog does not pick up your training of basic things quickly. Try to think the way your dog does. Consider how it would be to see the world in their eyes. Doing this will give you a completely different perspective, which should help you in training them.
Make sure to get everyone involved in training. If you are the only member of the family working with Fido’s behavior, then the other members of the family are giving him mixed signals. Consistency is extremely important in dog training. Also make sure that everyone is using the same key words and rewards so that the behavior will be reinforced correctly. Off and down are two different things to a dog, so make sure you aren’t confusing him.
Be consistent with your dog training to make sure your animal stays obedient to the rules it has been learning. Do not assume that your dog will remember his training all his life. Pets are just like humans, in that they follow habitual routines. This is why on-going training is important.
When giving commands to your dog, do not repeat the command over and over before getting a response. By giving the command one time and waiting for the dog to respond, you will teach him that you are expectant of a behavior. If the command is not obeyed at first, show your pet what you expect before saying the command again.
