Hand Signals for Directional Search.

Here is a short video on how to teach your dog hand signal directions. In order to start this work your dog must be familiar with the place command which is placing his feet on a tub and staying there. If you are not familiar with how to teach the place command check out my other video, Teaching Touch Pads. Hand signals are great for when you are looking to increase the level of communication with your dog. By using four commands come, over left, over right, and go away, you can pinpoint your dog to your desired location. Once they are in the vicinity in which you’d like them you can give them another command to search for an object. The direction commands can also be useful for getting your dog out of a sticky situation like thin ice, or if there is an obstacle in your dogs way of getting back to you in which you can guide them to a safe and protected route in order to return to you safely. Hope you enjoy!
